Shyamali: Sprouting Words explores how dissent fuels life force and growth, and recognizes the courage of women who speak up and talk back to sustain communities against injustice. “Shyamali” means “dark green” in Bengali, invoking the resilience of grass, which springs up when trod upon.

Marcus Young serves as Collaborating Director is this production. Ananya Chatterjea's choreography combines the poetry of Contemporary Indian Dance in a practice anchored in social justice and invokes the spirit of Dakini, traditionally embodied by destruction, chaos, and transformation.

Other collaborators include composer Greg Schutte, scenic designer Joel Sass, media designer Darren Johnson, costume designer Annie Cady, lighting designer Kevin A. Jones, and the dancers of ADT.
