First Event Celebrating 10 Years of Dancing in the Streets
at Planned Parenthood, Friday April 14
Don’t You Feel It Too? will celebrate ten years of dancing in the streets by inviting everyone to try their unique form of civic behavior. It’s participatory art that’s a cross between a flash mob, spiritual practice, and street protest. Dance for exercise and stress relief, dance to be radically expressive in public space, dance to practice liberation, or dance just because you have some awesome music in your pocket. With more than 40 events planned from April to October, 2017, there's no reason not to do it: Grab headphones, bring music, go to the streets, and dare to dance!
WHAT: Planned Parenthood Dance Action, “Welcome to the Fire”
WHERE: 671 Vandalia Street, St Paul, MN 55114
WHEN: Friday, April 14, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On Friday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Don’t You Feel It Too? will be at the largest annual protest and counter-protest related to abortion and women’s health care. In the midst of thousands facing off against thousands at Planned Parenthood in St. Paul, a small group of dancers will be a third energy. This new activity exploring the intersection of dance, healing, and activism is called “Welcome to the Fire.” It brings the practice right into the hot zones of conflict.
“Welcome to the Fire” will also be at Twin Cities Pride on June 24, 2017, creating a large-scale dance action against yearly protesters who show up preaching homophobia and transphobia. The rest of the season to October will be announced in April and will include 40+ other public events, a “DanceBreak Challenge,” and the launch of a 1000-year plan for Don’t You Feel It Too?
